I got Korean nationality - what do I have to do next?

국적 취득 후 절차 (외국국적 정리·가족관계등록·주민등록)

People who obtained Korean nationality through naturalization, restoration of nationality and the like

Sometimes an agent can do this for you. Ask us and we will check.
🔴 If you do not renounce your foreign nationality or make the non-exercise pledge within 1 year of the day you get nationality, your Korean nationality disappears automatically (the pledge has to be made while you have an address in Korea). After that you create your family relation register and do your resident registration, and you have to hand back your alien registration card within 30 days of completing the resident registration. The steps at your home country's embassy and court cases such as a name change are not something an administrative scrivener handles.

How long it takes
About 10~14 days until the resident registration card (주민등록증) is issued

  • Notice of approval of naturalization, or of restoration of nationality
  • Pledge not to exercise your foreign nationality (외국국적불행사 서약서), or a certificate of renunciation or loss of nationality issued by your home country

Leave a question

Just leave one way to reach you. We check it, pass it to an administrative agent, and the agent contacts you directly.

We only take your request and pass it to an administrative agent. You pay us nothing.

The more you write, the faster the agent can answer you.

It doesn't have to be a Korean number. Pick the country, then type the number. The administrative agent will contact you on this number.

It's the first thing the administrative agent asks on the first call. Filling it in saves a call back.

We don't check what you write and we don't report it anywhere. It goes only to the agent who takes your question.

The year and month you are allowed to stay until. Look for the period of stay on your ARC (foreigner ID card), not the card's issue date. It is fine if you are not sure.

What you write and your contact go only to the administrative agent handling this. We do not tell your employer. The agent tells you the cost directly.
