🔴 If you do not renounce your foreign nationality or make the non-exercise pledge within 1 year of the day you get nationality, your Korean nationality disappears automatically (the pledge has to be made while you have an address in Korea). After that you create your family relation register and do your resident registration, and you have to hand back your alien registration card within 30 days of completing the resident registration. The steps at your home country's embassy and court cases such as a name change are not something an administrative scrivener handles.

How long it takes
About 10~14 days until the resident registration card (주민등록증) is issued
Where you file it
The nationality desk at the Immigration Office (출입국·외국인청 국적계), your home country's embassy, the city, district, town or township office (시(구)·읍·면사무소), and the community service center (읍·면·동 주민센터)
Papers you usually need
- Notice of approval of naturalization, or of restoration of nationality
- Pledge not to exercise your foreign nationality (외국국적불행사 서약서), or a certificate of renunciation or loss of nationality issued by your home country
- Family relation registration report form (가족관계등록 신고서)
- Resident registration report form (주민등록 신고서) and a photo
- Your original Alien Registration Card (외국인등록증), to hand back
