The requirements and documents are completely different for each type (F-5-1, F-5-2, F-5-6 and so on), so the first thing to work out is which type you are. Unpaid taxes or a record of fines are grounds for refusal, so clear them before you apply. If you are refused for not meeting the requirements, the fee is not refunded.

Papers you usually need
- Integrated application form (통합신청서) for permission to change your status
- Original passport and Alien Registration Card (외국인등록증)
- Proof of income and assets (certificate of income amount, proof of employment, bank transaction records)
- Proof of Korean ability (Social Integration Program (사회통합프로그램) completion certificate, or TOPIK)
- Criminal record certificate, proof of health insurance payments, proof of your address
