November 2026 Korea Festivals & Events Guide — CSAT Traffic & Last Fall Colors
Contents

November is the only month in Korea with no public holidays at all. Yet it's still worth your attention. You'll catch the last of fall foliage, major events like the Busan Fireworks Festival and G-STAR are clustered here, and best of all, it's way less crowded than October, making it easier to get around anywhere.

There is, however, one date that only locals know about: CSAT (College Scholastic Ability Test) day. The entire country moves differently for this one day, and if you don't know about it, your plans could get thrown off.

Below, we've organized what's officially confirmed as of August 2026 and what hasn't been announced yet.

November Calendar — No Holidays, But There's CSAT

There are no statutory public holidays in November. That means KTX and accommodation bookings are much easier than October. But two dates are exceptions.

Date Day What Impact
11/1 Sun JTBC Seoul Marathon Morning road closures Sangam~Yeouido~Jamsil
11/19 Thu 2027 CSAT Exam Extra subway/bus service, adjusted office hours, noise control

What to know about CSAT day (11/19): The exam happens nationwide on the same day.

  • Morning rush hour will see extra subway trains and buses to help students arrive on time.
  • Government offices and many companies delay start times (usually to 10 AM). Morning rush hour patterns will be different than usual.
  • Noise control zones are enforced around test sites, and aircraft takeoffs/landings are even suspended during the English listening test. If you're flying domestic or international that afternoon, check your airline's notices.
  • In the evening after exams end, many businesses offer discounts for test-takers.

Coming for MAMA? — Not in Korea in 2026

The biggest K-POP awards show, MAMA AWARDS, won't be held in Korea in 2026. According to the official announcement from organizer CJ ENM, it will take place November 20 (Fri)~21 (Sat) at Kyocera Dome Osaka, Japan. This is the third time in Osaka, following 2022 and 2024.

If you're in Korea, you can't attend in person—you can only watch via online live stream on Mnet Plus. If you planned your Korea trip around MAMA, now's the time to adjust.

Major Events This Month

Event Dates Location Admission
Busan Fireworks Festival 11/7 (Sat) Gwangalli Beach, Busan Beach viewing free · Reserved seats paid
Jeju Olle Walking Festival 11/5 (Thu)~11/7 (Sat) Jeju Olle Routes 19·20 Free (pre-registration)
Seoul Cafe Show 11/11 (Wed)~11/14 (Sat) COEX, Seoul Paid
G-STAR 11/19 (Thu)~11/22 (Sun) BEXCO, Busan Paid
Gwangju Biennale ~11/15 (Sun) Gwangju Biennale Exhibition Hall Paid
Jeju Biennale ~11/15 (Sun) Jeju Museum of Art & others Paid
Seoul Autumn Festa ~11/29 (Sun) Citywide, Seoul Mixed free/paid

Watch the dates carefully for Seoul Cafe Show. The first two days (11/11~12) are trade-only, requiring business cards. General visitors can only enter 11/13 (Fri)~11/14 (Sat). With 35 countries participating, it's a major expo with good English website support.

G-STAR is a gaming convention. General admission (BTC) runs 11/19 (Thu) to 11/22 (Sun), with online pre-sale only (no on-site tickets). The official site overview mentions 11/18, but that's for setup and industry days, not public access. 2026 admission prices haven't been announced yet.

Three biennales all end mid-November. Gwangju and Jeju run until 11/15 (Sun), while Busan already ended 11/1 (Sun). If you're coming for art, plan for early November.

Free Things in November

  • Busan Fireworks Festival beach viewing (11/7 Sat, Gwangalli) — Reserved paid seats exist, but watching from the beach is free. Take Busan Metro Line 2 to Gwangan or Geumnyeonsan Station—expect massive crowds around the stations that day.
  • Maeheon Citizens' Forest Autumn Festival (11/7 Sat~11/8 Sun, Yangjae, Seoul) — One of Seoul's best late fall foliage spots. Right at Yangjae Citizens' Forest (Maeheon) Station on Sinbundang Line, and free. Still listed as "scheduled" by Seoul city.
  • Haneul Park Silver Grass Fields (Year-round, World Cup Park, Mapo, Seoul) — The festival itself ends in October, but the silver grass fields are part of a public park and always free. Still worth visiting through early November. Line 6 World Cup Stadium Station.
  • Hanseong Baekje Museum Special Exhibition 〈Ancient Culture of Three Kingdoms〉 (From 11/20, Olympic Park, Seoul) — The museum itself is always free. Line 9 Hanseong Baekje Station.
  • Seoul Autumn Festa (~11/29, Citywide, Seoul) — A bundle of major cultural programs running since September. Many outdoor programs at Seoul Plaza are free, but each program has its own pricing.

Fall Foliage — When Should I Go?

This is probably your biggest question if you're coming to Korea in November, but to be honest, the 2026 foliage forecast hasn't been released yet. The Korea Meteorological Administration and private weather services usually release peak foliage predictions in September.

You'll find lots of articles online stating things like "Seoul foliage peaks in early November," but most are based on past years' data. Timing shifts by 1–2 weeks each year depending on temperature.

Here are real-time resources instead:

  • Korea National Arboretum Plant Phenology Observation (nature.go.kr) — Real-time updates on maple and ginkgo foliage status nationwide.
  • KMA Famous Mountain Foliage Status — Operates only during fall season.
  • Korea National Park Service (knps.or.kr) — For places like Seoraksan with timed entry systems, check trail access restrictions too.

In general, Korea's fall colors start in Gangwon Province in late September and move south. So in November, Seoul and southern regions are your best bet. In Seoul, accessible by subway: Maeheon Citizens' Forest, Namsan Park, Seoul Forest, Deoksugung Stone Wall Path, Olympic Park.

Busan Gets Busy in November

This month's two biggest events are both in Busan: the 11/7 Fireworks Festival and 11/19~22 G-STAR.

  • The Gwangalli area gets extremely congested on fireworks day. Subway is your safest option, and to avoid the post-event crowd at stations, consider walking to the next station over.
  • Seoul to Busan takes about 2 hours 40 minutes by KTX. November normally has plenty of seats since there are no holidays, but 11/7 (Sat) and G-STAR weekend are exceptions. Book these dates early.
  • If KTX is too expensive, there are express buses. Cost comparisons by option are detailed in Cheapest Way to Get from Seoul to Busan.

Here's where foreigners often get stuck: Most Korean rail and bus booking sites require Korean bank accounts or mobile phone verification. Without an Alien Registration Card or on a short visit, you'll hit a wall at payment. Having an app that lets you book both KTX and express buses with just a passport and international card—no phone verification—makes these busy days much easier.

Want to handle everything from your first ride after landing in one app? Check out LACHA.

Built to work without a Korean phone number or bank account, with overseas payment methods like Alipay, WeChat Pay, and Apple Pay. Taxi hailing plus KTX, express bus, and airport railroad (AREX) booking — all in one app.

Events Continuing into December

These start in late November and run through December. If you're in Korea in late November, you can catch opening week.

Event Period Location
Unfold X 2026 11/26 (Thu)~12/9 (Wed) Culture Station Seoul 284 (Seoul Station)
Seoul Independent Film Festival 11/26 (Thu)~12/4 (Fri) Seoul theaters (venues TBA)
Hanseong Baekje Museum Special Exhibition 11/20~2/1/2027 Olympic Park

On the flip side, here are events wrongly listed as November that we'll cover in the December guide:

  • Seoul Lantern Festival is in December, not November. It's the lantern festival along Cheonggyecheon Stream.
  • Seoul Light Gwanghwamun and Seoul Plaza Ice Rink both open in December.
  • Christmas markets and illuminations — 2026 schedules haven't been announced yet.

Getting around Busan on fireworks day is harder than the festival itself. Traffic controls and return routes around Gwangalli are detailed separately in Busan Fireworks & BIFF Festival Transport Survival Guide.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1. Can I watch 2026 MAMA in Korea? No. The 2026 MAMA AWARDS will be held November 20~21 at Kyocera Dome Osaka, Japan. This is an official CJ ENM announcement. In-person attendance in Korea is not possible; you can only watch via Mnet Plus online live stream.

Q2. Is it okay to travel on CSAT day? You can, but here's what to know. On November 19 (Thu) morning, subway/bus service increases and government office hours are delayed, making rush hour different than usual. Aircraft takeoffs/landings are controlled during English listening test time, so if you're flying that day, check airline notices. Noise control zones are enforced around test sites.

Q3. Can I go to Seoul Cafe Show on any day? No. 11/11 (Wed)~11/12 (Thu) are trade-only, requiring business cards. General visitors can only enter 11/13 (Fri)~11/14 (Sat). Pick the wrong day and you won't get in.

Q4. Can I see fall foliage in November? Seoul and southern regions are likely to have foliage. However, the 2026 foliage forecast hasn't been released yet, so we can't give exact timing. Check real-time status at Korea National Arboretum Plant Phenology Observation (nature.go.kr). Most dates circulating online are from previous years.

Q5. November has no holidays—do I still need to book tickets early? It's generally much easier than October. The exceptions are tickets to Busan for Busan Fireworks Festival (11/7) and G-STAR weekend (11/19~22)—book those early.
